What stands out slightly is a small thread of improvement in her most recent runs — eighth, then sixth, then fifth — which, while hardly dramatic, at least suggests she may be finding her feet. Whether that trend continues is the question worth watching. She raced just one day ago, so she is very much an active project rather than a finished article.

She is trained at Newmarket by Dylan Cunha, whose yard has sent out 45 winners this season — a solid, functioning operation by any measure. That the stable is producing results elsewhere makes Lilykoy's record harder to explain away, though it is worth remembering that plenty of horses take time to click. At Class 5, the level she typically competes at, she is already racing in the lower tiers of the sport where the aim is simply to find a race she can win. She has not managed it from three attempts at that level, winning zero from three, but the search goes on.

At this stage, Lilykoy is a horse you file away rather than write off. The record is thin and the results have not come, but she is young, trained by a competent yard, and showing the faintest signs of progression. Something to keep an eye on, rather than get excited about just yet.
