The story started a month earlier, when Lifeplan broke its duck at Thirsk on 25 July 2025. From there, the jump to a Class 1 at York might have looked ambitious, but Lifeplan made it look straightforward. That kind of rapid progression — winning at the top level within weeks of your first race — is exactly the sort of early form that gets people excited.

The one question mark is time. Lifeplan hasn't raced since that York win, which is now roughly seven months ago. A long break at this stage of a career always raises questions: has the horse trained on? Will it need the run to find its best form again? What is certain is that trainer Declan Carroll, based in Malton in North Yorkshire, has been in fine form this season with 22 winners sent out from his yard — so Lifeplan is returning from a stable that knows how to have horses ready. Whether Lifeplan can pick up where it left off is the most interesting question in what is already a very short but very promising story.
