Les's Legacy

The most important number in that record is four. Four of Les's Legacy's five career wins have come at Hexham, the small, tight-banked track in Northumberland not far from where it is trained. Winning 4 races from 17 at the same course is the kind of pattern that goes beyond coincidence — this horse simply knows that track, thrives on it, and has made it something of a home. The most recent of those Hexham wins came on 22 June 2025, which means the dry spell currently sitting at six races without a win is not quite as bleak as it might look on paper.

The other win worth highlighting came at Kelso in March 2023, a Class 2 race — one of the top tier events in Britain. That puts a ceiling on Les's Legacy that most horses at this level never reach. It can mix it with better horses on its day, even if most of its racing happens at Class 4 level, where it has won just 1 from 22 — about 1 in every 22 attempts at that grade, which reflects how competitive even the so-called "lower" tier can be.

Ground matters too. On slightly soft ground — wet but not heavy — Les's Legacy wins 3 from 15 races (20%), which is comfortably its best surface. That is winning 1 in every 5 races on ground it favours, compared to far leaner returns elsewhere. Susan Corbett, who trains the horse from her yard in Otterburn, Northumberland, has had 11 winners this season alone, so the operation is in good form. Nathan Moscrop, who rides Les's Legacy more than anyone else, has partnered it to 2 wins from 14 races together — roughly 1 in 7 — a solid if not spectacular partnership.

The last six runs have produced a fifth, an eighth, a fourth, a tenth, an eighth, and a tenth. Not the results anyone wants to see. But Les's Legacy raced just yesterday, is clearly still in training, and a return to Hexham on soft ground would make it one of the more interesting runners on any card.
