The overall numbers tell a different story, which is part of what makes him fascinating. Across 51 races, he has won 7 times and finished in the places a further 16 times — a win rate of around 1 in every 7, or 14%. That is the career of a reliable journeyman, not a standout. He tends to run in Class 6 races, the lowest rung of the ladder in British racing, where he has won 6 from 35 appearances. At that level, with those numbers, he is dependable but unremarkable. Except at Southwell. At Southwell, he is something else entirely.

His most regular partner in the saddle is Elle-May Croot, who has ridden him 27 times — more than half his career. Together they have won 4 races, which works out at roughly 1 in every 7, a 15% win rate. Those are solid numbers for a pairing at this level, and the consistency of that combination suggests Ivan Furtado's yard at Wiseton in South Yorkshire values the relationship. Furtado has had a productive season, sending out 43 winners, so Lednikov is part of a busy and functioning operation.

The concern right now is form. His last 6 races have produced finishes of seventh, sixth, fifth, fifth, fifth and seventh — nothing better than fifth, and that last win at Southwell came four months ago in March 2026. He is clearly still finding his feet again after that peak, but given what we know about him, the obvious question is simple: when does he go back to Southwell? Because if history is anything to go by, that is when this horse starts to look like a different animal altogether.
