When the rain comes and the ground gets heavy, Layfayette transforms into a different horse entirely. On a dry, fast surface, he is solid but beatable. On a saturated track, he is a genuine threat.

He has not won since August 2023 — over 32 months ago — and his recent form of 7-6-13-2-3-4 tells a mixed story. The 13th-place finish stands out as a rough day, but second and third in there suggest he has not completely lost his way. He is also returning from a five-month break, which adds a layer of uncertainty. Whether that rest has freshened him up or simply added rust remains to be seen.

His partnership with Colin Keane, Ireland's most celebrated jockey, has produced just 1 win from 12 races together — roughly 1 in 12 — which is modest given the talent involved.
