The last six races have been tough. Most recently, three days ago, the horse finished seventh. Before that came another seventh, then a third-place finish that would have seemed promising if the form since then hadn't slipped again. A fourth-place finish earlier in that run is the highlight of recent months — not the kind of stretch that builds momentum. Miss N C Hennessy has been Lakewood Rose's regular rider, partnering the horse ten times without a win between them. It is the kind of record that suggests either the pairing hasn't quite clicked, or Lakewood Rose simply lacks the finishing speed needed at this level. Either way, results have not followed.

Lakewood Rose is still racing, which says something for the horse's durability at eight years old. But the form tells a clear story: this is a horse that gets around a course competently enough to earn a place now and then, but hasn't yet — and may never — find that extra gear needed to cross the line first.
