Her recent form makes for uncomfortable reading. Working through her last six races, she has finished ninth, fourth, eleventh, ninth, and failed to complete on two occasions. That fourth-place finish is the closest she has come to troubling the judge, and even that was a race she ultimately lost. Six races is a reasonable sample — enough to suggest that, at this stage, winning is proving genuinely difficult for her.
She is trained by John Joseph Hanlon at his yard in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, and it is worth noting that the team around her has been in decent form this season, sending out 11 winners. That tells you the problem is unlikely to be the training — Hanlon clearly knows how to get horses ready to perform. Whether Lady's Choice simply needs more time, a different type of race, or a change of conditions remains to be seen. She raced just one day ago, so the yard — the team — are clearly keeping her busy and looking for a breakthrough. Patience, and perhaps a little luck, are what she needs most right now.
