Chelmsford is an all-weather track in Essex that runs year-round, and it tends to suit horses who travel well and stay honest through a race. The fact that Lady Chartwell got it done there suggests she appreciates a consistent surface and a test that rewards genuine effort rather than pure speed. Her preferred distance of a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs — essentially a staying trip, longer than most sprints — tells a similar story.
