Lady Arwen

The standout fact is Gowran Park. Lady Arwen has won three of her seven races there, a win rate of nearly one in two. That is the kind of course mastery most horses never achieve. She got her career off the ground with a win at Gowran in May 2022 and has returned there repeatedly with real success, suggesting the track and its particular characteristics suit her perfectly. Away from Gowran, she is a very different proposition—a journeyman rather than a specialist—but at that one course she becomes genuinely dangerous.

She is also noticeably better on soft, muddy ground, where she has won two of ten races (20 per cent) compared to much thinner returns elsewhere. For a seven-year-old with moderate overall statistics, that kind of ground preference is useful information; it tells you exactly when and where to expect her to be at her best. Her recent form shows resilience too. In her last six races, she has finished in the top 3 four times, including wins in two of them, suggesting she is still capable of competing and delivering the odd victory.

Trainer Conor O'Dwyer's Friarstown yard has sent out just four winners all season, so Lady Arwen represents a meaningful part of that output. Interestingly, regular jockey Cian Horgan—who has ridden her nine times—has never tasted victory aboard her, which raises the possibility that a different partnership might unlock something. At any rate, Lady Arwen remains active and recently won at Galway in July, proof enough that she still has something left to offer.
