La Campanella

The recent form figures — 4, 5, 7, 11, 5, 12 — tell a mixed story. Finishing fourth and fifth twice suggests she is not always out of her depth, but the 11th and 12th place finishes show she can also drop well out of the picture. There is no upward curve here, no sense of a horse building toward something. She raced just yesterday, which at least confirms the yard is keeping her active and looking for the right opportunity.

Regular jockey Mark Crehan has been on board for six of those nine races and is yet to ride her into the frame. That is not necessarily a reflection on either horse or rider — sometimes a partnership simply needs the right day — but six attempts without a placing does little to inspire confidence. Gerard Keane's yard in Trim, Co Meath has sent out 10 winners this season, so there is clearly ability in the string. La Campanella just hasn't found a way to tap into it yet.
