La Bassette
La Bassette is a two-year-old with just one race under her belt, finishing fourth when she went to post about a day ago. It was a debut outing, the kind of educational run that tells you more about what a young horse might become than whether she is ready right now. She is trained by
Clive Cox at his Lambourn yard, a stable that has already sent out 48 winners this season, so she has the infrastructure and know-how behind her that gives her a real chance to improve.

Our model's view, based on this horse's career and recent runs
At this early stage, with only a single race completed, there is very little to hang a judgement on. What matters now is how she shapes up next time out, and whether Cox can iron out whatever cost her ground in that first attempt. The yard's track record suggests they know what they are doing with young horses.
