Wetherby is where Konfusion has truly made his name. He has won all three races he has run there, including a top-level (Class 1) win on Boxing Day 2025. Three from three at the same track is not a coincidence — it suggests a horse who genuinely loves that particular style of racing: flat, galloping, and unrelenting. His trainer has been open about the fact that he believes Konfusion needs exactly that kind of course to show his best. It is a rare and useful thing to know about a racehorse.
His autumn and winter campaign of 2025 was exceptional. He won back-to-back top-level races — first the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle in November, then the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day — and his trainer admitted the Newcastle win was almost surprising in how easily it was done against quality opposition. When a trainer says a horse won more comfortably than expected, that is worth paying attention to. Add the fact that he loves wet, muddy ground — winning 2 of his 5 races in those conditions, a 40% win rate — and suddenly his profile in a British winter starts to look very attractive.
Not everything has gone perfectly. A run in the Peter Marsh Chase saw him finish behind two horses he was giving weight to on ground that did not suit him, and his trainer was candid that the conditions worked against him. The team came away feeling they still had something in reserve. That is the mark of a genuinely good horse: you can run below your best and still leave people thinking you are better than the result suggests.
The next big ambition is the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, one of the most competitive staying races of the season. His trainer has one reservation — Cheltenham's twisty, undulating track is about as different from Wetherby's wide, flat gallop as you can get. Getting him there first to try the track is the sensible next step. Whether he takes to it or not, Konfusion has already had a season most racehorses would envy.
