The partnership with jockey Kieran O'Neill has been given plenty of chances — five races together — but they have not managed to convert on any of them. That is not necessarily a reason to write either of them off, but it is fair to say the combination is still looking for its moment. Kittys Dream has mostly been running at Class 6, the lowest rung of British racing, where competition should be at its most accessible. Going winless at that level across three attempts suggests there is real improvement needed before this horse starts troubling scorers regularly.

The one piece of context worth holding onto is the trainer. Alice Haynes has sent out 23 winners this season, which tells you the yard knows how to get horses to the track in winning form. Haynes clearly has the tools and the ability — the puzzle is simply finding the right race and the right conditions to unlock something from Kittys Dream. The horse also returns here after a break of roughly five months, which is significant. Freshened horses can sometimes surprise, and there may be a reason the team have given it time off rather than kept running it into the same results. Whether this comeback signals a change in fortunes or more of the same remains to be seen, but at least there is something to watch for.
