The recent form makes for honest reading. Working backwards from yesterday, the finishing positions read 3rd, 5th, 6th, 11th, 7th — a horse that occasionally gets into the frame but more often finds itself in the middle of the pack. That third-place finish is the lone bright spot and shows Kings Order can mix it with its rivals to some extent, but converting that into a win has so far proved a step too far.
At Class 4 level — the kind of everyday, mid-tier racing that forms the backbone of the British racing calendar — Kings Order has run four times and drawn a blank on every occasion. It is not being stretched beyond its limits by running in elite company, which makes the winless record harder to explain away. Sometimes a horse just needs the right race on the right day, but at some point the record has to start doing some of the talking.
Kings Order is trained by Mrs C Williams at a small yard in Llancarfan in the Vale of Glamorgan. The stable has sent out three winners this season, so they know how to get a horse to the winner's enclosure. The question is whether Kings Order can become the fourth.
