What makes it worth keeping an eye on, though, is who has it in their care. Tim Easterby's yard at Great Habton in North Yorkshire has been in seriously productive form, sending out 128 winners already this season — a number that speaks to a training operation firing on all cylinders. When a stable is producing winners at that kind of volume, even the horses yet to find their feet are operating in an environment built for improvement. Easterby has a well-earned reputation for being patient with young horses, and two-year-olds in particular often need time and experience before the penny drops.
King Of Persia raced just one day ago, so this is very much a horse in the middle of its story. Three races is a small sample — plenty of horses have needed four, five, or six outings before getting competitive. The finishing positions haven't been pretty, but the fact the team keeps running it suggests they still believe there's something to work with. Whether that faith is rewarded remains to be seen.
