Trained by Lemos De Souza out of Newmarket, the traditional home of British flat racing, Kentucky Rain is part of a yard that has sent out 19 winners this season, which tells you this isn't a small operation just making up the numbers. Good horses tend to come from good yards, and a second-place finish at two years old — especially one that came just yesterday — hints that there may be more to come once this youngster settles into the job.

At this stage, no wins from two races is hardly a cause for alarm. Two-year-olds are essentially teenagers finding their feet, and a big step forward between race one and race two is often the most encouraging sign a young horse can show. The story here is still being written.
