The four-year-old has not yet broken through for a win from his three races, but the form book tells a more encouraging story than that bare record suggests. Two placings from three outings — and a most recent sequence of 2nd, 4th, 2nd — paints the picture of a horse that keeps finding the line with a bit of running left in him, even if the winner has just managed to stay out of reach. He raced as recently as yesterday, so clearly there are no concerns about keeping him busy.

The challenge now is turning those near-misses into something more. Plenty of horses sit at 0 from 3 without ever troubling the judge again, but Kenneth is in the care of a yard that wins races at an extraordinary rate, and that counts for a lot. If the Gosden team keep running him — and yesterday's outing suggests they will — it may only be a matter of time before the pieces fall into place.
