The most striking thing about Keilah's form is the drought. That first and only win came nearly two years ago, and the horse has not been back to the front since, despite racing regularly. The last six runs—12th, 15th, 5th, 7th—paint a picture of a horse struggling to recapture whatever moment allowed it to win at Punchestown. Recent form has been particularly poor, with only one top-five finish in those last four races.
Where there is a glimmer of hope is distance. Keilah performs noticeably better between 1m1f and 1m2f, winning 1 of 6 races at those trips—a 17% win rate, four times better than its overall record. That is the kind of specific strength that can be useful. Trainer Mark Michael McNiff's Strandhill yard, which has sent out five winners this season, appears to be aware of this, though it has not yet translated into another breakthrough. Nathan Crosse, the jockey most often aboard Keilah, has also not managed to unlock another win in seven rides together. At this stage, Keilah is a horse that had its day and has been hunting for another ever since.
