The winning run came on 3 October 2024 at Warwick, a solid performance that suggested real potential. Yet what has happened since is a complete blank. Whether injury, setback, or simple circumstance kept Kaylan away from the track, the prolonged absence means almost nothing can be said with confidence about its current fitness or ability. The horse is trained by Fergal O'Brien, a prolific yard based in Gloucestershire that has been in tremendous form this season with 91 winners to its name — but even a top trainer cannot magic a horse back into racecourse fitness after 18 months away.

Until Kaylan races again, it remains a tantalizing "what if" rather than a genuine prospect. One perfect run is not enough to build a reputation on. What matters now is whether it can return to the track healthy and ready to prove that initial promise was not a flash in the pan.
