The recent form figures of 13-10-4-6-5-6 do at least hint at some gradual improvement. That fourth-place finish stands out as the closest Katalyst has come to threatening the places, and the fact that it raced just yesterday shows the team are keeping it busy, perhaps looking for the right opportunity to unlock something better. William Muir and Chris Grassick, who train out of Lambourn in Berkshire, are a yard very much in form — they have sent out 20 winners already this season, so they clearly know how to get a horse ready to win. The question is when Katalyst will repay their patience.
Regular jockey Lewis Edmunds has been in the saddle for five of those ten races and is yet to find the combination that gets Katalyst competitive. Five races together, no wins, no places — it is a partnership still searching for its moment. Katalyst has done most of its racing at Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing, exactly where you would expect a young horse without a win to its name to be competing. Even there, the breakthrough has not come. That said, a yard with 20 winners on the board this season is not one that gives up easily, and three-year-olds can surprise you. Katalyst just needs to find its race.
