Karuma Grey

The last victory came at Ffos Las on 19 December 2024, which now sits 22 months in the rear-view mirror. That win, and an earlier success at Gowran Park in March 2023, came in lower-level races where Karuma Grey could get the better of the field. The trouble is that when stepped up to Class 3 company — proper competitive races — the record reads 0 wins from 4 attempts. Recent form has been particularly tough: across the last six races, a fifth-place finish bookends several blank days with no top-3 finishes at all. That does not look like a horse finding its feet again soon, yet Karuma Grey raced just yesterday, so the horse remains active and the yard is still looking for an opening.

Barry Murphy's Caerfyrddin yard has been relatively quiet this season with just two winners sent out, so Karuma Grey is not operating from a hot stable. The partnership with jockey Shane Fenelon has been modest as well — one win from five races together, a win rate of 20 percent — though that single success does hint that the pair can find the mark when conditions align. For a horse now in its prime years at eight and chasing its first win in nearly two years, the clock is ticking, but there may still be a race at the right track and the right weight that brings another success. Finding it, though, will require the kind of luck that has been elusive lately.
