Trained by Jennie Candlish at Basford, Staffs, Karthala is part of a yard that has already sent out 64 winners this season, suggesting it is in a competent operation. At Class 5 level, where the horse typically races, it has run six times without winning, which points to a horse that is competitive enough to place regularly but perhaps lacks the finishing kick needed at this standard. The most recent run came just a day ago, keeping Karthala actively campaigned. Whether it can finally break through to the winner's circle remains to be seen, but the consistent placing record suggests it is not far away.
