Both of Jouster's wins came in a concentrated burst. The first arrived at Tramore in late November 2024, and the second followed just three weeks later at Fairyhouse in December 2024. Back-to-back wins for a horse that does not win often is a significant moment — it suggested something had clicked, whether that was fitness, conditions, or simply confidence. The trouble is, that was 19 months ago, and Jouster has not managed to win since. The last six runs read as a pair of non-completions around three placed finishes and a fifth, which tells the story of a horse finding its level without quite being able to break through again.

Keith Donoghue has been the most regular partner in the saddle, riding Jouster in 7 of its 22 races and winning once together — that is roughly 1 in every 7 rides, which is actually a better return than the horse's overall record. The pair clearly have some familiarity, and Donoghue will know as well as anyone what it takes to get the best out of this horse on a good day.

The trainer is Paul W Flynn, based at Colehill in County Longford. With 22 winners sent out this season, Flynn's yard is operating with genuine momentum — Jouster might not be the stable star, but it is being kept active and competitive. Racing just one day ago, Jouster is clearly fit and in work, which at least rules out any rustiness as an excuse. The question now is whether there is another win lurking in a horse that has already shown it can find the winner's enclosure when conditions align.
