Those two wins came in quick succession in late 2024 — first at Tramore in November, then at Fairyhouse in December — which suggested Jouster had found some form and might be building toward something. That momentum, though, never quite arrived. The last six races have brought a string of mid-pack finishes — ninth, then a blank, then thirteenth, eighth, tenth, and fifth — and the last win now sits 16 months in the rear-view mirror. For a horse still only six, that gap is not career-defining, but it is long enough to raise a question about whether that purple patch was a peak or just a brief high point.

Now Jouster returns from a four-month break, which adds another layer of intrigue. Horses come back from spells in the yard for all sorts of reasons — a minor issue, a planned rest, or simply a trainer waiting for the right opportunity. Paul W Flynn's yard has been in decent nick this season, sending out 21 winners, which at least suggests Jouster is returning to a team with confidence behind it. Keith Donoghue, who knows the horse better than anyone having ridden it seven times, has a 1-from-7 record on board — winning roughly 1 in every 7 of those rides — and is likely to be back in the saddle.

The honest read on Jouster is this: a capable, mid-level horse that found a good moment last winter but has been largely treading water since. A break and a fresh start can sometimes unlock something a horse had lost. Whether that applies here is the question worth watching.
