The trainer T Ellis operates out of Rugby in Warwickshire, and the yard has been in decent nick this season, sending out 24 winners — so there is clearly ability in the operation to get horses winning. That Jonny Setaside hasn't yet converted its chances at Class 4 level, going winless from three attempts at that grade, is the puzzle that the yard will be working to solve. Class 4 is a solid mid-tier level — not the very bottom rung of racing, but not the elite either — so cracking it would represent a meaningful step forward.
Last seen on a racecourse 17 days ago and still active, there is presumably another run on the horizon. At five years old, this horse is mature enough to know its job, which makes the lack of a win slightly harder to explain away as inexperience. Sometimes a horse simply needs the right conditions, the right track, or one small thing to click. For now, Jonny Setaside remains one of the sport's work-in-progress stories — and with a yard that clearly knows how to get horses into the winner's enclosure, the hope will be that the breakthrough isn't too far away.
