Recent form hasn't offered much encouragement either. The last six outings have brought a pair of ninth-place finishes, a fourth, a fifth, and two blank runs where the horse failed to finish in the frame at all. The best of those — the fourth — shows there are occasional glimpses of something, but consistency has been hard to find.
Miss P Elvin has been in the saddle for six of those races and is yet to find the winner's enclosure with Jollie Cosmos, which at least means the partnership has nowhere to go but up. The trainer, P J Rothwell, operates out of Tinahely in County Wicklow and has had a productive season — 35 winners sent out, which shows the yard clearly knows how to get horses winning. That makes Jollie Cosmos something of an outlier in the string, and you'd imagine the yard — sorry, the team — haven't given up on finding the right opportunity for this one to finally deliver.
Still racing at 10 years old and having run just one day ago, Jollie Cosmos is nothing if not game. The first win, when and if it comes, will have been a long time coming.
