Recent form tells a slightly muddled story. His last six races have brought three placed finishes — a fifth, a second, and two thirds — sandwiched around a three-race blank that included a third in his most recent outing just a day ago. The horse is clearly running regularly and giving his the yard reasons to keep faith, even if the wins have dried up since May. At four years old he is still in his prime and very much active, so the long gap between his Leicester success and today is really a four-month drought rather than any sort of retirement. The consistency of his placing — he has finished in the money in half his races overall — suggests a horse that gets close without quite finding that extra gear when it matters. For John Galt to kick on, he needs to rediscover whatever worked at Leicester and prove that his sweet spot at the mile-and-a-bit trip is not just a statistical blip.
