Jeteye

Hexham is where Jeteye found his feet. He has won 2 of his 5 races there, making it his strongest course by a distance—he is far more likely to perform at that track than anywhere else in the country. It is the kind of specialist status that gives a horse identity and value. Away from Hexham, though, things get tougher. When he steps up to Class 4 races—better-quality fields—his record is stark: zero wins from ten attempts. He thrives at smaller meetings but struggles against stronger opposition, which defines his place in the sport.

Sam England, his trainer at Guiseley in West Yorkshire, has had an excellent season with 49 winners already. Earlier this year, Jeteye suffered a knock to his suspensory ligament and went home to his owners for recovery, but he has returned to the yard and is building back to fitness. England believes there is no reason he cannot pick up more wins at his natural level—small, competitive races suited to his ability. The trainer has noted that Jeteye is more efficient over hurdles than fences, so expect him to stay over the smaller obstacles. With a course he loves and a trainer who backs him, Jeteye looks set for a decent spring campaign, provided he stays sound.
