Watson has a reputation for placing horses cleverly and developing younger ones over time, so Jean's Boy is at least learning its trade in capable hands. A three-year-old with only four races behind it is still very much a work in progress — some horses of this age take the best part of a year before everything clicks.

The most recent run was just yesterday, which means this is a horse being kept busy and active. That in itself can be a sign that the team believes there is something to work with — yards do not keep running horses that show nothing at home. Whether Jean's Boy justifies that faith is the open question. For now, the record is what it is: zero from four, and still searching for a first moment to remember.
