The recent run of form tells a similar story. Over the last six races, Je Suis has finished fifth, third, pulled up or fell at some point in the sequence, then sixth, sixth, and ninth — a mixed picture that includes one genuinely encouraging effort (that third place), but a lot of struggling home mid-pack or worse. The third place is worth noting: it shows the ability is somewhere in there, even if it rarely shows up when it matters.
Regular jockey Mr A P Kennedy has been in the saddle for eight of those 13 races, and the two of them are yet to get their heads in front together. That kind of long-running partnership without a win is not necessarily anyone's fault — some horses just need everything to click at once — but it does suggest the breakthrough has not been straightforward to engineer.
The trainer, S Curling, operates out of Cashel in County Tipperary and has sent out 14 winners this season, so this is clearly a yard capable of getting horses to win. The fact that Je Suis has not been among them yet is notable. What is encouraging is that Je Suis raced just one day ago, so this is very much an active campaign — the team has not given up, and the search for a first win is still very much on.
