Jampot Lane

The recent form makes for tough reading: finishing 11th, 7th, 10th, and 11th across its last four races, with yesterday's run the most recent of them. A seventh-place finish is the closest it has come to mixing it with the front-runners, and even that would have been well adrift of the winner in most fields. Zero wins and zero places from four outings means it has not once finished in the top three — a record that is difficult to spin in a positive direction.

Jampot Lane is trained by Gearoid O'Loughlin, who operates out of Dunshaughlin in County Meath. It is a small yard with modest ambitions at present — one winner so far this season — and Jampot Lane has not been contributing to that tally. The fact that the horse raced just yesterday suggests the team are keeping it active and looking for a race where the pieces might finally fall into place. That persistence is either optimism or loyalty, and possibly both. Every horse finds its level eventually — the question for Jampot Lane is whether that level involves finishing a little closer to the front.
