Jakana

The two wins came in quick succession over the winter of 2024 into early 2025 — first at Southwell in December, then at Sedgefield in January. That kind of back-to-back winning suggested a horse in good form and clearly suited to winter racing. But since that Sedgefield victory, now 17 months ago, Jakana hasn't been able to find the same spark. The last six races have produced just one fourth-place finish and five blank runs, which is the kind of sequence that tests a trainer's patience and makes finding the right opportunity feel like solving a puzzle.

What keeps things interesting is that Jakana raced just yesterday, so this is very much a horse still in active training and still being aimed at races. Not every horse at this stage of a career is still being produced regularly — the fact that the yard is persisting suggests they believe there's still a race or two to be won. Whether Jakana can rediscover the form that made it a winner twice in the space of six weeks remains the question. For now, it's a horse with a modest but honest record, doing its job at a competitive level, and with the kind of recent run of near-misses that makes the next win — whenever it comes — feel genuinely worth waiting for.
