Jack The Savage

Two wins from his last six races is a genuine purple patch for a horse at this level. His most recent victory came at Fontwell Park just four weeks ago, and with a race under his belt as recently as yesterday, he's clearly a horse in the thick of his season. His first win came back in July 2022 at Worcester, so he's been around long enough to know his job. He tends to operate at Class 5, which is the bread-and-butter level of British racing — competitive enough, but not the big showpiece occasions. At that level, he's won 3 from 18, which is 17%, or roughly 1 in every 6 races. For Class 5 company, that's a perfectly respectable return.

He's trained by Laura Horsfall, based in Towcester, Northants. The yard has sent out five winners this season, and Jack The Savage accounts for a meaningful chunk of their recent activity. Interestingly, his most regular jockey Kevin Brogan hasn't yet managed to get him into the winner's enclosure across their six rides together — but given the horse has found form with two wins recently, that combination may be due a change of luck. Whether Brogan was aboard for either of those victories, the horse himself is clearly in good shape, and at nine years old, he's proving that experience still counts for something.
