It's Life

But step down slightly and the picture brightens. Over distances between 1 mile 1 furlong and 1 mile 2 furlongs, It's Life has won 1 of its last 5 races — a 20 per cent win rate, which is genuinely respectable. That Salisbury win four weeks ago ticked both boxes: it came at the right distance and at a level where the horse belongs. Kathy Turner's yard at Sigwells in Somerset has been steady this season, sending out six winners, and It's Life's form in the past month suggests the trainer may be fine-tuning things at last.

Recent runs reveal a horse that is trying hard without quite putting it all together. In the last six races, it has finished second, fourth, sixth, and ninth — mostly mid-field efforts with one decent placing. It raced just yesterday, so it is clearly being kept active, and that aggression in the schedule sometimes pays off with horses that need racing into form. It's Life has not broken the bank — it is a lower-level performer at present — but the win at Salisbury proved it can win, and the right ground conditions and distance at the right track could unlock another victory soon.
