Invincible Annice

Tracy Waggott trains her out of Spennymoor in County Durham, and has been candid about what Invincible Annice needs: the ground has to be wet. Not just damp — properly soft, heavy going. On fast, dry ground she simply does not fire, as a fruitless run at Ripon made clear earlier this year when the track was too quick for her. That is a significant limitation in flat racing, where you cannot always wait for rain, but when the conditions do align, a different horse entirely turns up.

The numbers are modest on the surface — 3 wins from 32 races means she wins roughly 1 in every 11 times out, and her last 6 results (ninth, twelfth, eighth, ninth, eighth, ninth) are a run of near-misses that fall just short of placing. Her most regular rider, Amie Waugh, has partnered her 12 times for just the 1 win together, winning about 1 in every 12 rides. But context matters: a horse this dependent on soft ground will go through long stretches of races where she was always going to struggle. Her jockey Shane Gray noted after a race at Hamilton that she was idling once hitting the front — a horse that had to dig into reserves to win in tough conditions rather than one cruising to victory.

Waggott's yard has sent out 10 winners this season, so this is an active, functioning stable rather than one just making up the numbers. At four years old, Invincible Annice is still young, and she last won as recently as November 2025 at Newcastle. The potential is demonstrably there — a Class 2 winner does not forget how to race. The question, as it has always been with her, is simply whether the skies cooperate.
