What the horse does have in its favour is the stable behind it. Michael and David Easterby operate out of Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire, and this season the yard has sent out 55 winners — a serious total that marks them out as one of the more productive operations in the north of England. Horses trained there tend to improve with experience, and a yard firing at that rate clearly knows how to get the best out of its string. For Invaluable Eye, still only three years old and with just two races under its belt, there is at least a reasonable case for saying the story is far from written.
Whether it will develop into something worth following remains to be seen. Racing one day ago, it is clearly fit and active, and the yard will be hoping those first two runs have taught it something. At this stage, it is a horse to watch rather than back — but in a powerful yard, young horses have a habit of surprising people.
