What makes Intervention truly interesting is his record at particular tracks and on particular ground. At Lingfield Park, he is a specialist — four wins from twelve races, a 33% win rate that suggests he knows the place and the place knows him. He also loves fast, dry ground, winning two of nine races (22%) when conditions are firm, compared to his much more ordinary form in the mud. His most recent victory, at Ripon in August, was significant enough that Appleby felt it was worth celebrating: a Class 2 race that the trainer described as "a massive pot" for a horse of Intervention's level. It was a race the yard believed he could win because the favourite runners had questions to answer, and Intervention simply ran his race.

The last six outings tell a different story — three, fifteen, seven, seven, eight, sixteen — nothing remotely near the winner's circle. That drought is real, and at his age, consistency becomes everything. But this is not a horse being carried along for sentiment. Appleby reckons him ready to win again soon, and that comes from someone who has made Intervention into a £100,000-plus earner from nothing. With jockey Alistair Rawlinson in the saddle — they win roughly 1 in every 6 races together — and a yard sending out 71 winners already this season, the machinery is still ticking over. Intervention may be in the veteran bracket, but he is still actively racing and still genuinely competitive at his level.
