Appleby has described Intervention as "just a legend", and the numbers back that up. When the trainer bought him, the horse had never won a race. Since then, he has won 15 times and earned well over £100,000 in prize-money for the yard — a transformation that says everything about what the right environment can do for a horse. The highlight of those wins came at Ripon on 16 August 2025, when Intervention landed one of the top races in Britain — a Class 2 — at the age of nine. Appleby's team had spotted that the better horses in the race each had question marks against them, and that the track conditions would suit. They were right.
The most interesting thread in Intervention's career is his love affair with Lingfield Park. He has won 4 races from just 12 attempts there — one win in every three races — which is a remarkable record for any horse at any track. His last win there came in December 2025, and it is the kind of venue where, whenever he lines up, experienced watchers take notice. He also thrives on fast, dry ground, winning 2 from 7 races in those conditions — nearly 1 in 3 — compared to a much more modest record elsewhere. His most reliable partner in the saddle has been Alistair Rawlinson, who has ridden him to 4 of those 15 wins across 23 rides together.
Recent form shows he has not won in his last six races, with finishes of 4-10-16-8-7-7, and he raced just yesterday — still active, still competing at the top level for his grade. At nine, most horses are winding down. Intervention, it seems, has not read that particular memo.
