What makes Intervention tick is his specialisation. At Lingfield Park, he is nothing short of dominant: four wins from twelve races there, a 33% win rate at a track where he clearly relishes the surface and layout. He is also a creature of habit on fast, dry ground, winning two races from nine attempts (22%) when conditions are firm — significantly better than his overall record. Recent form has been tougher; his last six races brought just one win, a 12-length victory at Ripon in August, which Appleby rated as a major achievement against horses with far higher reputations. That win came as a genuine surprise to those watching, a Class 2 success on turf at a time when the horse had drifted away from the winner's circle.

The partnership with jockey Alistair Rawlinson has been mutually profitable. Together they have won four races from 23 rides, a 17% win rate that suggests genuine chemistry. Yet Intervention remains what he has always been: a bread-and-butter racehorse, honest and willing, the sort of nine-year-old that lesser trainers would have retired years ago. Instead, Appleby keeps him fresh, races him with purpose, and Intervention keeps paying his way. Still active just yesterday, he remains a horse worth following on fast ground and, especially, whenever Lingfield appears on the card.
