Bangor-on-Dee, a tight, turning track in north Wales, clearly suits him — that is where his win came, and it is the kind of course that rewards a horse who tries hard and travels well rather than one blessed with sheer speed.

Jockey Theo Gillard has been in the saddle for 12 of those 17 career races, winning once together — so the pair know each other well. Independent Jimmy raced just yesterday, which means he is bang in form and his trainer is keeping him busy. Whether that Bangor breakthrough proves to be a one-off or the start of something is the interesting question hanging over him right now.
