Imperial Dream

The most telling detail is that Imperial Dream last won 24 months ago at The Curragh on 17 August 2024. Since then, across six recent races, it has not found the winner's circle once, though it did finish fourth in its most recent outing just a day ago. This is a horse in decline, or at least one struggling to rediscover the form that brought it victories at Wolverhampton in June 2023 and The Curragh a year later. Trainer Patrick J Flynn, based at Carrick-On-Suir in County Waterford, has sent out eight winners this season, but Imperial Dream is clearly not part of that success story.

What's surprising is the partnership with regular rider Robyn Donaghue-Leahy, who has eleven races aboard the horse without a single win. It's hard to say whether the fault lies with the horse or the pairing, but that statistic alone suggests a mismatch. When competing at Class 5—the level where the horse most often races—Imperial Dream has won once from eight attempts, a 12% win rate that is actually above its overall average. It is at this modest level that the horse occasionally finds enough to prevail, though recent form suggests even that is becoming difficult. Imperial Dream remains active and raced just yesterday, but the trajectory is unmistakably downward.
