Imelda

At three years old, Imelda is still early in her development, and the consistency she's already shown is genuinely encouraging. Plenty of horses at this stage are all over the place; she's been in the frame more often than not. That runner-up finish suggests she has the ability to win — it's really just a question of when the right race comes along.

She ran just yesterday, so she's very much in the thick of her season right now. Her trainer David Loughnane, based at Stoke Heath in Shropshire, has had 39 winners this season — a yard clearly in good form and not short of horses capable of winning. Getting Imelda into the winner's enclosure will be the next item on the to-do list, and on recent evidence, it probably won't be long coming.
