Hurricane Laughter

What makes this worth watching, though, is where it sits in the sport. Class 4 races are the bread-and-butter level of British racing — solid, competitive fields where horses are trying to establish themselves. Hurricane Laughter has run three times at that level without a win, but racing just yesterday means this is a horse in active work and presumably still being developed by its team.

That team is trained by Ed Walker at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, one of the great training villages in British racing. Walker's yard has sent out 76 winners already this season, which is a genuinely impressive output — that kind of volume means horses in his care are regularly running well and winning races. The fact that Hurricane Laughter hasn't joined that tally yet doesn't mean it's been forgotten; a busy, successful yard tends to keep faith with young horses while they find their feet. At three years old, there is still time and room to improve.
