Hurricane Bay

Nowhere does he thrive more than at Huntingdon, where he has won 2 of his 3 races — a remarkable record that makes him one of the more reliable performers at that track. He underlined that again just four weeks ago, winning there on 7th May 2026. Jockey Tom Cannon noted afterwards that once Hurricane Bay got to the front, he was almost too relaxed, waiting for the others to come to him. That is the behaviour of a horse completely at ease with his surroundings. Trainer Lucy Wadham was equally candid, pointing out that he simply likes it at Huntingdon and likes this time of year — which explains a lot.

Wadham, based at Newmarket in Suffolk, has had 18 winners from her yard this season alone, and Hurricane Bay is one of her more consistent tools. His most regular partner is Bryony Frost, who has ridden him to 2 wins from 10 races together — winning 1 in every 5 (20%), which tracks his overall average almost exactly. That consistency matters. He is not a horse who occasionally flickers into life; he just keeps doing roughly the same job, race after race.

What makes his story a little more vivid is the blunt honesty from his team. Wadham has openly said he has been asked to run in tough company for much of his career, and finding easier opportunities has unlocked better results. He raced just yesterday, so whatever comes next is imminent. Given that he likes fast, dry ground and is currently in form, and given that his trainer has already flagged Doncaster, Kempton, and Ludlow as possible targets, it would be no surprise to see him go well again. At 10, Hurricane Bay is not building toward anything — he is simply very good at what he does, and still doing it.
