The recent form makes for tough reading. Looking at the last six races — 8th, pulled up, 7th, 4th, 2nd, 3rd — there's a horse that has shown some ability (that second and third place aren't nothing) but hasn't been able to string it all together when it matters. The pulled-up run sits in the middle of that sequence like a bad week at work, and the two finishes deep in the field either side of it don't help the picture. That said, Hudson raced just yesterday, so whatever form it's carrying right now, it's very much live and active.
The one genuinely encouraging thing here is who is doing the training. Mickey Bowen, based in Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, has sent out 52 winners already this season — that's a yard in seriously good form, and horses in good yards tend to find their moment eventually. Bowen clearly knows how to get a horse ready to win. The question is whether Hudson can finally be one of them.
