The recent form tells an interesting story on its own. After a rough patch in the middle — finishing seventh and then well down the field in eleventh and twelfth — Hooves Your Daddy has started pointing back in the right direction. The last two runs produced a second place and then a third, which is encouraging even if a win remains elusive. The horse ran just one day ago, so it is very much a live, active runner whose story is still being written.
The trainer is Jarlath P Fahey, based at Monastervin in County Kildare. The yard has sent out three winners so far this season, which is a modest but solid return, and Fahey will be well aware that getting Hooves Your Daddy over the line for that first win is overdue. The two recent placed efforts suggest the team believes there is still something worth chasing here, and they are clearly keeping the horse busy.
Whether that breakthrough comes soon is the question. The horse is only three, which means time is still on its side — plenty of horses take a while to find their feet. But eight races without a win, however close some of those finishes have been, is a real test of faith. The next run will be one to watch.
