The yard behind Homestrait is Brian Ellison's operation at Norton in North Yorkshire, which has sent out 43 winners already this season — a genuinely productive yard with a serious throughput of winners. Regular jockey Ben Robinson has been in the saddle for 12 of the horse's 16 races and has won on it twice, which translates to a win rate of roughly 1 in every 6 rides together (17%). It's not a barnstorming partnership on paper, but the continuity matters — Robinson knows this horse, and that familiarity tends to count.

Homestrait clearly has a preference for normal ground conditions, winning 2 from 7 races on a standard surface — that's 29%, or nearly 1 in 3, which is a noticeably better return than its overall record. It's the kind of detail worth paying attention to: when the ground is right, the horse finds another gear. The career started at Doncaster in July 2025 with a first win, and Homestrait has been building on that foundation ever since, with the Carlisle victory this week the latest chapter.

Most of its racing has come at Class 5 level — one step up from the bottom of the British racing ladder — where it has won 1 from 5 (20%). That's in line with its overall average, which tells you this is a horse comfortably operating at its right level rather than being asked to punch above its weight. Whether Ellison decides to test it at a higher grade on the back of this week's win will be interesting to watch. Right now, Homestrait looks like a horse in form, in the right hands, and knowing exactly where it belongs.
