Hitched

The most interesting chapter in this horse's story is what happens when it travels to Lingfield Park. Four wins from 14 races there — nearly 1 in every 3 — is the kind of record that makes you sit up. Most horses drift in and out of form across different tracks without any clear pattern, but Lingfield clearly suits Hitched in a way that is hard to ignore. Whether it is the surface, the layout of the track, or something about the trip, that course has been very good to this horse.

Speaking of the trip, Hitched tends to be at its sharpest over 1 mile 3 furlongs to 1 mile 4 furlongs — the middle-distance range where stamina starts to matter more than pure speed. Two wins from seven races at that distance, around 1 in every 3 to 4, suggests it is well suited there. Jockey Luke Morris knows this horse better than anyone, riding it 20 times and winning 6 of them — that is 30%, or almost 1 in every 3 rides together, which is a strong partnership by any measure.

The recent form gives a slightly different picture. Hitched has not won in its last six races, finishing down the field in a couple of those, and the last victory came at Wolverhampton back in January — five months ago now. That kind of run can happen to any horse competing regularly at Class 4 level, where the competition is consistent and wins are genuinely hard to come by. At that grade, Hitched has won just 2 from 24 races, around 1 in 12, which tells you the level is competitive even if the career record looks tidy overall.

Hitched raced just yesterday, so it is very much in active campaign. Whether a return to Lingfield is on the cards remains to be seen, but that is the track where this horse has made its name — and where anyone watching for the first time might want to pay attention.
