The horse races regularly for trainer Eoin Griffin's yard at Slieverue in County Kilkenny, and is most commonly ridden by jockey Ricky Doyle. In their eleven races together, the pair have not won, though that shared record reflects the broader pattern of Hidalgo Des Mottes' career rather than any particular failing on either rider's part. The horse continues to race actively — it was last out just a day ago — which suggests the trainer believes there is still value in sending it to the track. Griffin's yard has already sent out eight winners this season, so Hidalgo Des Mottes remains part of an operation that knows how to train winners, even if this particular horse has not yet been one of them.
