The most intriguing chapter of Heritier's career is what happens when it travels to Market Rasen. Two wins from just three races there is a remarkable record — that is a two-in-three success rate at a track where most horses win far less than one race in every five. Something about the place suits this horse in a way that very few venues suit any horse, and that kind of course affinity is genuinely unusual. The first of those wins came on 22 March 2022, which was also the first win of Heritier's career — a meaningful moment at a track that has since become a happy hunting ground.

The majority of Heritier's racing life has been spent at Class 4 level, which is the solid, workmanlike middle of the sport — not the glamour of the big festivals, but competitive enough that winning is never easy. At that level, the record reads two wins from 28 races, or roughly one win every 14 attempts. That is not prolific, but it is consistent enough to show the horse belongs. The last win came at Carlisle on 1 December 2024, now 16 months ago, and the current run of six races without a victory will be something Lizzie Quinlan's yard is very aware of.

Sean Quinlan, who rides Heritier most often, has not yet managed to get the horse into the winner's enclosure across 12 races together — a combination that has produced plenty of placed efforts but no breakthrough. That said, the yard has sent out four winners already this season, so confidence is not in short supply. Heritier raced just one day ago, which means this is a horse in the thick of its campaign. Whether a return to Market Rasen is on the agenda, only the team knows — but on recent evidence, that would be the most logical place to go looking for win number six.
