The recent form tells a slightly more complicated story. Back-to-back third-place finishes in the last two runs suggest the horse is in decent enough shape and competing honestly, even if it hasn't been able to convert that consistency into a victory. A tenth-place effort three runs ago is the one blemish in an otherwise tidy recent sequence, and with a race just yesterday, this is clearly a horse being kept busy. Six races at Class 5 level — essentially the entry-level tier of British racing — with nothing to show for it in the win column is a tough record to look past, however.

Helsgetaway is trained by the experienced partnership of Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, based up in Milnathort in Perth and Kinross. It's a yard that clearly knows how to win — 49 winners already this season is a seriously productive tally — so the tools and expertise are there. Whether Helsgetaway can finally reward their patience is the open question. Those consecutive placed finishes at least hint that the horse is not far off, even if "not far off" has been the story for a while now.
