Hello Sweety

The key to understanding Hello Sweety is Fakenham. The Norfolk track is tight, sharp, and unforgiving of horses that don't concentrate — which makes it a slightly unlikely home for a horse described as having just two speeds: standing still and flat out. And yet she has won 3 of her 5 races there, a record that would make most horses at any level proud. Her first win came on 21 December 2025, and she was back winning there just this week, on 31 May 2026. Something about those bends and that rhythm just suits her. Stuart Edmunds, who trains her from his yard in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire, put it plainly after the latest win: "A lot of people have knocked Hello Sweety, but she likes to do things her way and this track is perfect for her."

Edmunds has had 24 winners this season, which tells you this is a yard that knows how to place horses well — and placing Hello Sweety well has clearly been something of a puzzle. The wind operation and the change in riding style he mentioned have made a real difference, and it's usually his son-in-law, Charlie Hammond, in the saddle. Hammond has ridden her in 8 of her races and won on 2 of them — a 25% win rate with her, which is meaningfully better than her overall record. Edmunds notes, with evident amusement, that his daughter is not exactly thrilled to watch Hammond on Hello Sweety, given how alarming she can be to ride.

At five years old and now rated 102, Hello Sweety is being nudged up in class, and Edmunds admits freely that life is going to get harder. She races over two miles or further — winning 3 of her 7 longer-distance races, nearly 1 in every 2 — which is where her relentless galloping style becomes an asset rather than a problem. There's a race at Stratford being mentioned for her next, another tight track. As Edmunds put it: "Good luck to anybody trying." On current form, that is not entirely a joke.
