The first win came at Galway on 29 July 2025, and that breakthrough clearly meant something, because Heliogabalus has not looked back since. Of the last six races, two have been victories — a sharp upturn that suggests the horse has matured and worked out what is being asked of it. The most recent win came at Leopardstown just three weeks ago, on 18 June 2026, and with a race as recently as yesterday, this is a horse very much in the thick of its season right now.
Heliogabalus is trained by Sean Byrne, based in Athy, Co Kildare. It is a small yard — two winners sent out so far this season — which makes every winner count and gives each success a certain weight. Shane Foley has been the regular rider, partnering the horse in seven of its races and winning once together, a partnership that has clearly been there for the horse's recent purple patch. That said, the form figures of 1-1 sitting inside a sequence that also shows a couple of thirteenth-place finishes shows this is a horse of genuine streakiness — capable of brilliance, capable of disappointing, and worth watching closely when the conditions suit.
